Today's Post

Today I am going to do something different on this blog. I usually post a piece of writing everyday, and haven't often used it as anything else. Today I am going to first come to you, my family, friends and writing peers, to discuss an assignment I was given. In our Independent Study in Creative Writing/Poetry/Brilliance class, we have been told to pick a "major author" who we would like to explore, soak up and emanate throughout the semester in our writing. I had thought that I had chosen an author, Lauren Oliver. She is brilliant and young and almost everything I want my writing to be. But as I think about it, and as I hear who my classmates have chosen, I thought about maybe challenging myself to find someone new. I have been exploring the area of poetry quite a bit, but I realized I've never really explored many poets.  Here's where all of you come in: I would love it if you could suggest a few poets that either you love or think would be good for me to explore. Some of you know how I write (especially those of you who were in poetry with Lisa last spring) and some of you are just getting to know my style, but if you can think of any poets at all that you think I might resonate with I would love your suggestions. I will be exploring on my own as well, and if it comes to it I might just use Lauren Oliver (who you should all check out if you haven't; she basically does teen/young adult fiction, but it's so brilliantly written. Try Before I Fall or Delirium).

Thank you so much for your help.
