The Anchor

There is a fleeting moment in time,
in which a girl with dreams of seeing the world finds an anchor.

And she is torn
between realizing her dream or
attempting to anchor down.

How to choose?

But, "Ah," she thinks. "What if I don't have to?"
For even an anchor is reeled onto the boat so it can float away.

  1. I love the ending, as well, and the underlying idea in the poem. I can totally relate to the girl! That image of pulling an anchor up to take it onto the boat to float away is stunning!

I would give you the suggestion of changing the verb tenses from passive to active (taking out the verb 'to be', like 'is'). I think the images will be stronger if you do that. I question what this 'anchor' is...a person? An obligation? A fear? Maybe that doesn't need to be defined, but that is something I wonder. But I'm okay with that. Also just go through and check to make sure each one of the words you use is really powerful.

But this is really such a lovely little set of verses. I am still thinking about the ending image. Thanks!
