Soundtrack

A song is a memory,
projected from a stereo
or speakers in a crowd.

And no matter where I am,
or who I'm with,
there are certain songs
that take me instantly back to
single moments,
or ingrained memories.

Words strung together
by someone I've never met
seem to flow through my head
like a soundtrack,
as pictures of you pass by
like slides.

So I turn the station,
or leave the room,
but the soundtrack
is on repeat in my mind,
just as it always has been.
