I would like to thank you for taking interest in my tiny corner of the world. I figure that while you're here, I might as well tell you a little bit about myself before you get to my writing. My name is Allison and I am a senior in college. I am studying to go into the profession of DCE, Director of Christian Education. This position always stirs up a few questions, so let me get the answers out of the way now: This is a Lutheran (LCMS) position that I am pursuing at a Lutheran University. I will be working mainly with youth, jr. high and high school students in the youth leader position.
You may ask why someone with a literary writing blog would not be in pursuit of a literary writing career, and I guess I would tell you that I plan on doing both... I'm simply getting the degree for one and going rogue on the other. I am, however, getting a writing minor. I was taking all of the classes to qualify for one, as writing keeps me sane, so I figured I would make it slightly official. Writing calms me down. It helps me get my feelings out in a way I (and others) can understand. Writing has helped me to understand myself in a new light. I have pulled back a few of the layers that I couldn't see to decipher to become a better person.I figure that as long as I'm writing I will be in touch with myself... so I hope to write forever.
I tend to write poetry, but I've started to dabble in short fiction pieces as well. I would love to fill a whole book with my poetry, which I have a feeling I could do anytime. I would also like to write a story long enough to fill a novel... so we'll see how that goes. On this blog I intend to put up a piece of work every day. This is part of my 2012 resolution. I haven't ever kept a resolution, so I figure if there's someone out there in cyberspace reading along, checking up on me, then maybe I'll actually keep one for once.
I will most likely end up posting mostly poems, with the occasional multi-day installments of fiction pieces. I'm not going to say an "in case I forget a day I will..." because I have a feeling it would be like giving myself permission to skip days... and I really don't want to do that. I will post my first piece on January 1st, 2012. Next January I will celebrate the fact that I made it the whole year. It will be glorious.
I wish you all happiness, safety, love and laughter as this New Year approaches.
Allison
